Marilyn Powell, Ph.D. (Licensed Psychologist)

Dr. Marilyn Powell-KissingerDr. Marilyn Powell lives in Dallas with her family and enjoys cooking, art, music, and all things related to Kindergarteners! She practices from a family systems viewpoint meaning that the impact of the environment and context of an individual, couple, or family is as important as the issues that brought them to therapy in the first place.

She is a big fan of strengths-based work and spends as much time working with the skills and positive attributes of her clients as she spends on the problems, leveraging strengths to rapidly address, curtail, and resolve challenges.

In her words:

I am amazed at the skills and abilities my clients have and bring to the counseling process. Even when things are the darkest or most difficult, illuminating and building on clients’ strengths with respect for what has already been tried and guidance toward what is possible is healing, healthy, and fortifying.

I work in partnership with clients to examine what is happening in their lives, understand their unique goals and wishes for themselves and loved ones, and build on the positive to help create a more enriched and healthier experience. I am not reluctant to get in the ‘trenches’ and really join with clients as they wrestle with the difficulties that are naturally encountered in life helping them develop skills that work with both current problems and future challenges.

I especially enjoy working with couples struggling to connect and build the life they imagined, those who have survived traumatic events, and people struggling with developmental challenges – moving from one life stage to another (young adulthood, divorce, marriage/partnership, parenting, aging.)

I am also particularly interested in working within the multicultural and LBGTIQ communities to help holistically and contextually examine challenges related to the pressures and views of the larger society in tandem with individual and personal concerns. Blended families, traditional and nontraditional, are also a passion for me; I really want to help these developing families ensure healthy integration and functioning for all members.

I can be reached at (972) 788-9201 ext. 102 or you may email me.
