Coaching is About Defining, Discovering Obstacles and Personal Challenges

Coaching is about defining and discovering obstacles or challenges in your personal and/or professional life. Once these obstacles and challenges are brought to light, the establishment of clear and obtainable goals will make it possible for you to achieve and maintain the life you envision. Coaching is an interactive process that can help you improve specific skills or teach you new ones, identify and set goals, manage your time more productivity, and improve over all functioning in multiple aspects of your life. The coaching process is grounded in overall personal growth and enrichment in all aspects of life. It facilitates a mentally healthy, stable, and motivated individual or family in attaining a more enriching and gratifying life.

When Should I Hire a Personal Coach?

People hire a coach when they are reevaluating choices they have made in their life, making a career transition, struggling with the demands of life, or wanting to improve their relationships with family, friends, or co-workers.  Occasionally, they simply are feeling ready for a personal or professional breakthrough or drastic change.  People who seek out the assistance of a coach are motivated to make a change in their personal and/or professional life. They come from various backgrounds and for various reasons.

Hiring a Coach could be the single best investment you make in your life!

What is the Job of a Personal Coach?

As a coach, I will ask questions of you which you might never ask yourself. This enables you to map out your vision of the future and to implement those necessary changes. The relationship between a coach and client is one of collaboration, teamwork, and cohesion. I will become much like the most honest and supportive friend you have ever known. A friend whose sole purpose it is to motivate, support, and assist you. I will also guide and direct you until you reach your goals and ultimately begin living a more fulfilling life.

I will not delve into your past pains or any trauma you may have experienced. We will not explore any suffering you may have endured as a child. Our relationship will be built on the basis of what you can do today to enrich your life tomorrow. I will only explore what is holding you back in the here-and-now. Together we will work to uncover challenges, develop objectives, establish goals, and implement newly learned skills.

I have a tremendous amount of respect for my clients. Asking for help from anyone is never easy. My education and training have provided me with some of the most valuable skills a person can acquire. I teach my clients these same skills and techniques so that they will be empowered with the strength and know-how to make positive changes in their lives. As your coach I will not make your decisions for you, and I will not tell you what is best for you. What I will do is provide a supportive environment in which you can learn how to make better decisions for yourself and discover what is best for you.

A coach is objective, and brings a new perspective to light.  A coach can help you create new possibilities and extinguish old self-defeating habits.  A coach can help you find more balance and meaning in your life.

Angela Livingston, MA, is a member of The International Coach Federation (ICF), “…the leader in developing a definition and philosophy of coaching, as well as, establishing a set of ethical standards that ICF members pledge to uphold.”

Please note: Coaching of any type is not psychotherapy or a substitute for the treatment of any mental illness.
