Gay/Lesbian/Bisexual/Transgendered Populations (GLBT)
In every part of the world, individuals enjoy life as gay,
lesbian, bisexual, and transgendered individuals. Even
facing discrimination and homopredjudice, gay, lesbian, bisexual,
and transgendered people thrive and live lives that are healthy,
productive, and important.
Growing up and living life as a gay, lesbian, bisexual, or transgendered individual
is not without its share of difficulties, however. While much of the world
has come to realize that being gay, lesbian, bisexual, or transgendered is natural,
expected, acceptable, and appropriate, many individuals continue to experience
different reactions from others. Because of this, being a person who is
gay, lesbian, bisexual, or transgendered can be challenging indeed.
This often leaves the gay, lesbian, bisexual, or transgendered individual to
experience and navigate the understandable results of being poorly treated. It
is the GLBT individual who is left trying to cope individually with the problems
of society as a whole. It is therefore integral that individuals who bravely
live being gay, lesbian, bisexual, or transgendered have the opportunity to gain
appropriate, informed, and empathic support from a professional who can understand
these issues.
Being gay, lesbian, bisexual, or transgendered is something
of which each individual can and should be proud. And learning to live with pride is not only a
significant accomplishment, but also one that holds great reward.
GLBT Couples and Families
GLBT couples and families have unique strengths and also
face unique challenges. At Enrichment Counseling and Assessment,
we provide affirmative therapy for GLBT families and are
uniquely positioned to assist with problems that are unique
to the couple regardless of their sexual orientation and
also external factors that increase stress and distress in
GLBT relationships and families.
Our approach helps couples identify which problems are "between us" and
which ones are external that need to be addressed from a position of unity and
strength. We are adept at working with couples through any developmental or relationship
hurdle. In addition, we provide specialized counseling services for the GLBT
community including helping with blended family issues, pre-union counseling,
pre-parenting counseling, and issues inherent in separation and dissolution of
partnership if this is the path the couple chooses.
Coming Out
At Enrichment Counseling and Assessment, we also have expertise
in working with queer youth, issues of coming out across
the lifespan, and with those who are questioning their
sexual orientation or gender identification. Please call
us for a consultation -- we will respond with respect,
caring, and affirmation and can also help connect you with
other community resources as needed.
Take that first step and contact Enrichment Counseling and Assessment for a consultation. You owe it to yourself. You may email us or call (972) 788-9201.
